In February, 83 percent of the city's hotel rooms were filled midweek. In August, just 34 percent.
'There's a threshold that properties are likely crossing at a point here where the income that they're getting from weekend travel just isn't enough to sustain normal operations,' Greg Chase, CEO of Experience Strategy Associates hospitality consulting group, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Encore Poker Room Tournament Schedule
It is entirely possible that partial operations will continue to be a trend in Las Vegas. Of course, casinos haven't opened all of their services for safety reasons, but hotels seem to be the next option for shutdowns. Planet Hollywood's casino floor is still open daily, but it is only taking hotel reservations Thursdays through Sundays. The Palazzo's hotel is not taking weekday reservations.
UNLV hospitality professor Amanda Belarmino told the Review-Journal that without a vaccine, people just don't want to hop on planes and head to Vegas for business or a convention. Remote learning is also keeping parents at home to be with their kids, rather than traveling for work.
She also said that the decision by Wynn is a responsible move and while it is clearly not a good thing for employees, it is better than uncertainty, allowing them to plan for downtime better or find other employment.
Wynn Las Vegas recently announced that it will be launching a new poker room at Encore in May this year. The new poker room will focus on providing the ultimate experience for poker players on the Las Vegas strip.
Occupying over 8,600 sq. ft, the new room will be adjacent to Encore Players Club, Andrea's Restaurant, Surrender, Encore Beach Club. The number of poker tables within the room will be increased to 28 tables from the current 25 and will feature USB ports to provide on-site electronic device charging.
A separate high-stakes VIP area will also be present and have five to six tables which will offer VIP customers privacy and a number of special services.

We are excited to introduce an enhanced poker room and look to create the ultimate poker gaming experience at the Wynn. The new room will incorporate carefully selected amenities specific to poker players that will set Wynn Las Vegas apart as a poker destination.
Encore Poker Room Tournament Schedule
Located conveniently near Wynn and Encore's self- parking garages, the new poker room is part of bigger plans to revive the Encore casino and take it to another level. Moving beyond a poker-only setting, the new poker room has been envisaged as a complete entertainment center, featuring a dedicated Sports Book window and dozens of 65 inch televisions that will be used for streaming live sporting events. Provision has also been made to have restrooms located inside the poker room in order to keep guests close to the poker table at all times.
Ryan Beauregard who recently took over the role of Director of Poker at Wynn after spending six years in Macau, said that the poker room is part of Chief Executive Steve Wynn's plan to bring in the younger generation to the casino. This was a strategic to attract younger players into the casino as the Ferrari dealership that was located inside the casino is now moving to another location.
Beauregard described the design process of the new poker room by stating that a lot of care had been taken to ensure that the new poker room has a special vibe to it yet remains comfortable for its patrons. The Wynn team along with the designers developed a layout emphasizing spaciousness and left enough space between tables which is a top requirement of poker players. There are also a number of changes made to the rooms décor as well. Although the room will externally stick to the Encore theme of red, internally the design scheme will be different, tending to lean towards lighter shades.

The poker room is expected to be opened on May 26 for which a grand opening event is being planned and details are expected to be released in the coming months.
